For this week's topic, my first thought was of Don Juan DeMarco, one of Simon's many heroes

B.J. is the biggest and the strongest of all of The Kitties. Simon - who wishes for that same manly physique - tries to get in shape whenever he visits. So here, Simon tries with all of his might! And, B.J. is happy to help. Only 49 more to go.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving (November 17, 2006)
(Illustration Friday: November 17, 2006)

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday to spend with family because of the lazy long weekend, good food, and minimal shopping requirements. We have a big veggie meal (Long live the turkey!) and good pie.

Cozy indoors, we enjoy the aromas of our impending meal--the squash, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and gravy--and we find The Kitties playing in the backyard on one of the last warm days of the year.

The full trees have changed colors and the leaves are all on the verge of falling. The brisk wind gives the hint of winter, and we can almost see the snow on its way.

As we watch through the kitchen window with our hands wrapped around hot cups of tea, Simon suddenly realizes that there are plenty of laps available in the house for his next nap.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Every day, Simon spends several hours thinking. Every so often, things become clear to him.

Sometimes, Mother Kitty dreams about visiting her kids on the farm down the street, even if she can't really remember exactly what they look like.

Hugh The Man!

This weekend, my friend Anastasia is seeing Hugh Jackman in The Boy from OZ in Australia, where the show has gone on an arena summer tour. After a fantastic year-long run on Broadway two years ago, Hugh won a Tony Award for his brilliant performance as Peter Allen. I saw the show three times, and I made and gave Hugh this card because he brightened up my summer! How thrilling that he now has the chance to bring it home! Be sure to check Anastasia's blog for her review of the show!

Congratulations Hugh!!! Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, and most wonderful, and yet again, wonderful....

Happy birthday, Johnny!!!

Everyone who knows me finds out pretty quickly that I'm hopelessly devoted to Johnny Depp. (Is it my massive Johnny DVD Library or my fantastic ability to relate any topic of conversation to a Johnny Story?) Last year while in New York to see a play, I secretly knew he was in town. I made a card for him - just in case a miracle happened - to thank him for...oh so many reasons. Unfortunately, that weekend, it wasn't meant to be, so the kitties came back home with me. In celebration of Johnny's birthday today (and to give these poor unseen kitties a glimmer of light), I thought I'd post it here:

Er, that'll be after he wakes me from fainting.

See you at the movies July 7th! (The rest of you-Mark your calendars!)

Every spring, Simon turns into a deer and bounds all over the yard. I stuck some cherry blossoms in there since I just saw them last weekend. ...And I added a few more flowers here and there... Okay, this isn't really our yard.

I didn't do these hands justice, as I can't really draw anything well aside from The Kitties. Thanks to Johnny for having simple tattoos in just the right places for this week's challenge!
