Unicorn?

I don't know about unicorns, but The Mother Kitty swears she saw something similar once.

Wet

Happy new year, everyone!

I had meant to keep my blog going without interruption through the holidays, but I got caught in a Christmas shopping frenzy after Thanksgiving. Then, I caught a cold the week before Christmas, so I've been sleeping. I'm nearly feeling back to normal this week, so I picked up my markers yesterday after more than a month of ignoring them.

Last month, as usual, I had a great time visiting family in Ohio,  but Christmas was unnaturally warm and soggy. While home, I found that Tyrone's coat turned shades darker as he's grown into adolescence. Also, he has a great singing voice. I guess some cats don't mind so much about getting wet.

Contraption

An enthusiastic helper, Tyrone adds some flair to Simon's latest contraption. While their project in the garage remains a mystery, this collaboration is bound for glory.

Moustache

When Simon first moved into our garage, he tried all sorts of strategies to win The Mother Kitty over. Some disguises were more successful than others.

Train

Is it just me, or do you always think of Buster Keaton when someone mentions a train too?

This drawing was instantly inspired by a scene in one of Buster Keaton's best movies, The General (1926). You can see it here:

Now, see how brave Comet can be? (This seat is not recommended.)

Wild!

When in the backyard, kitty instincts typically take over... Happy Earth Day, everyone!

Whisper

Sometimes when you sit in the backyard, you can hear The Kitties whispering through the trees.

Wool

I almost skipped this week's Illustration Friday topic because I wasn't sure why any of The Kitties would need some wool. But, then, the word reminded me of one of my favorite Pepe Le Pew cartoons, in which a little dog was in need of a more luxurious fur coat. (Yes, this is how my mind works.) You can watch it here:

She just wants to fit in, as Simon does so well here:

Haunt

I know it's Christmastime, but I'm a little behind in posting my Illustration Friday drawings. Haunt was the topic for the last week of October.

At the time, I had just seen Tim Burton's Frankenweenie and was completely inspired to create Frankenweenie Kitties.

Then, while in San Francisco, my friend and I caught a bit of Young Frankenstein, one of our favorite movies, on TV.

So, here's a mix of both: Comet is "The Monster" (with a heart of gold). Ashes is his bride. B.J. is Dr. Frankenstein with Simon assisting as Igor and The Mother Kitty providing musical accompaniment as Frau Blucher. (Oops, I set off the horses.)

Water

These actions are based on true events, proving Simon's special relationship with water. What it all means remains a mystery.

Mirror

The Mother Kitty studies the Funhouse Mirrors at every amusement park she visits. I think she's on the verge of figuring them out.

Carry

One time, I moved some of the kittens to a different spot without checking with The Mother Kitty. She gave me a look and carried them back. I never did it again.

Lost

When Simon first found us, he was lost. But, he says he picked us and our home out after months of thorough investigation all over town. He then devised the following elaborate, methodical plan:
Step 1. Lurk at the office.
Step 2. Spy on our daily routines.
Step 3. Spring out of the bushes when least expected.
Step 4. Turn on the charm.
Lost (July 13, 2012)
It worked!
The Mother Kitty does not believe Simon's story and has her own theories. But that's an illustration for another day.
